A Week Breakaway

Day 1: Marrakech – Boumalne Dades

 

This morning, we will pick you from your Riad in Marrakech, and we will begin our journey across the High Atlas Mountains, using the famous Tizi n Tichka pass (alt2260m). Beautiful panoramic views as we climb this mountain pass. Serpentine roads will lead you to the Dades Valley.

Our first stop enroute will be to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Benhaddou, the largest Kasbah in Morocco. It was built by the last Berber chieftain El Glaoui Et-Hami in the late 19th century; it is now a UNESCO matrimonial historical site, which today still houses many Glaoui family members. This is a fine example of modern engineering, built completely without nails or wood. You can then have a spot of lunch by the Kasbah, before we head into the city of Ouarzazate, the Hollywood of Morocco. Here you have the option of visiting the studios to see props used in some movies you might have seen, such as “Gladiator”, “Jewel of the Nile”, “Prince of Persia”, “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen”, “The last temptation of Christ” and “The Sahara”. We continue on towards Skoura, to visit the Kasbah here, on the Road of a 1000 Kasbahs. We travel onwards South towards Dades Gorges and you can walk under the 300m high red cliffs before we check into your riad for the night. Dinner and overnight in Dades Valley.

 

Day 2: Boumalne Dades – Erg Chebbi

 

This morning after breakfast, we will leave Todra valley and move further South, to the Berber town of Erfoud. We will break journey, for a little while, and then head towards Merzouga and Erg Chebbi dunes. You have the option to ride a camel to the camp this evening, or enjoy the exhilarating 4×4 experience on the dunes! Ready to make a wish on a star? Dinner and overnight in the Sahara desert. Day 3: Erg Chebbi – Fes


Wake up to watch the sunrise play with colors on the dunes, and have a leisurely breakfast. If you choose you could have a Quad bike ride! Thereafter, we will depart the solitude of the Sahara and head towards Fes. We break along the way to take some pictures , in the valley of Ziz and the Switzerland of Morocco, Ifrane. Upon reaching Fes, we will check you into your Riad for dinner and overnight stay.

 

Day 4: Fes – Meknes


This morning, you will meet your guide at approximately 9am to being your city tour of Fes. Your tour will be approximately 3 hours, after a quick lunch, we will travel to Volubilis, the Roman fortress, and one of the best preserved roman ruins left in this world. You will follow your guide to visit Volubilis. Thereafter we will move on to the Imperial city of Meknes, with its magnificent gates and stables. Dinner and overnight in Meknes.

 

Day 5: Meknes – Tangiers


After breakfast this morning, we will travel further into the Rif Mountains to reach the incredible Blue City of Chefchaouen. Twice voted in 2015 and 2016 as a must visit city, Chefchaouen will fill your senses with its beauty and relaxed atmosphere. Dinner and overnight in Chefchaouen.

 

Day 6: Chefchaouen – Tangier

After breakfast this morning, we will leave to travel across to Tangiers. Along the way we will stop to visit the Grotto of Hercules, and you will admire the incredible natural formations there. We will continue on into the city where you will be free to walk around and explore the city. Your tour ends here.
