Mountains and Deserts

Day 1: Depart Marrakech.

Ait Benhaddou, moroccan ancient fortress

Our trip takes us out to Toudra Gorge, passing the Oasis of Skoura. We will pass numerous ancient Kasbahs, sadly some in ruins, that stand amongst the palm trees.

We continue through Kela’a M’gouna, (the Valley of Roses) where we get to visit the local industries that make cosmetics from the valley’s abundant roses. Well known in Morocco, the world is now recognizing the value of these precious products.

We will detour some towards Dades Gorge for lunch. Should you wish to have a special lunch with some local Berbers, this can be arranged too. Thereafter, take a short stroll along the river before continuing to the Toudra Gorge for the night.

Day 2: Todra Gorge – Erg Chebbi

Caravan of camels at sunset Sahara desert Morocco

Take a stroll, after breakfast, through the Tinghir palm grove and then drive to the Merzouga dunes via Ziz Valley, the Oasis of Tafilalet and we will break for lunch at Rissani or Erfoud. After lunch, you will continue to the dunes, for your 2 hour camel ride in the Sahara. Watch the sunset from the top of the Erg Chebbi dunes and then have dinner and stay at a nomad tent.

Day 3: Erg Chebbi – Ouarzazate

Wake up early enough to watch the sunrise, when the colours of the dunes shift and change between shadow and light. Return to Merzouga on your trusty camel. After a short break to freshen up, we drive bake east to the Dra’a Valley and through the village of Tazzarine and N’Qob, where we have lunch.

In the afternoon we drive to Tanasikht along the track of the ancient caravan route, reaching the Dra’a Valley, lush and green with the large palm trees and Kasbah. Back on the paved road again, we reach Ouarzazate at the end of the day, crossing the mountain pass of Tizi-n-Tinfifite at 1660m above sea level.

Day 4: Ouarzazate – Marrakech

After breakfast, you will be transferred back to Marrakech for your onward journey and a heart full of memories.
